Camshaft Removal and Installation
Remove Cam Shafts:
1. Loosen and remove the four #1 cap bolts (very front of motor) - loosen uniformly.
2. Pry out the two #1 bearing caps.
3. Uniformly loosen and remove the 12 bearing cap bolts - in the following order:
2nd cap
6th cap
4th cap
5th cap
7th cap
3rd cap
12 bolts total.
Take out cams.
Installation of Cam Shafts:
Note: when putting cams back in, install with cam lobe facing up.
1. Place the #3 and #7 caps in their original location
2. Lightly tighten these caps uniformly and alternately, in several passes, until snug.
3. Install 2 oil seals to cams.
4. Install cap numbers: 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 in their original location.
Note: Tighten the above caps in the following order:
5th cap
1st cap
3rd cap
4th cap
2nd cap
6th cap
7th cap
Tighten to 14 ft/lbs
After installing caps:
1.Push the 2 oil seals in as far as they can go.
2.Rotate the camshaft with a wrench at the hexagon position, bring the forward straight pin up.
3.Loosen the 3 bearing cap bolts shown (1st, 2nd and 5th), until they can be turned by hand; retighten, in several passes (14 ft-lbs).
4.Turn the camshaft 1/3 revolution (120 deg) ¡¦pic shows clockwise.
5.Loosen the 2 bearing cap bolts as shown (4th & 6th), until they can be turned by hand; retighten, in several passes (14 ft-lbs).
6.Turn the camshaft 1/3 revolution (120 deg) ¡¦pic shows counter clockwise.
7.Loosen the 2 bearing cap bolts as shown (3rd & 7th), until they can be turned by hand; retighten, in several passes (14 ft-lbs)
